1988 Belgian Grand Prix

The 1988 Belgian Grand Prix Was Overshadowed by the Death of Enzo Ferrari

Held in the Ardennes in late August, the race was won by Ayrton Senna

The 1988 Belgian Grand Prix, formally known as the XLVI Champion Belgian Grand Prix, was a Formula One motor race held at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on August 28. The race was the eleventh round of the 1988 FIA Formula One World Championship and was won by Ayrton Senna of McLaren. The race was overshadowed by the death of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Ferrari team, who died on August 14.

Senna started from pole position and led for most of the race, but was passed by Alain Prost of McLaren on lap 43. Prost led for the next 15 laps, but Senna was able to close the gap and eventually repass Prost on lap 58. Senna went on to win the race by a margin of 1.1 seconds.

The 1988 Belgian Grand Prix was a memorable race for a number of reasons. It was the first race to be held after the death of Enzo Ferrari, and it was also the race in which Ayrton Senna emerged as a major force in Formula One. Senna's victory was his first of the season, and it helped him to secure the Formula One World Championship title.
