Flooding Concerns Rise After Record July Rainfall

Duke Energy Carolinas is closely monitoring the development of Tropical Storm Debby, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to the region. The slow-moving nature of the storm has raised concerns, as it could drop a significant amount of rain over a prolonged period.

Wettest July on Record

July has been the wettest July to date, with a record 911 inches of rainfall. This has saturated the ground and increased the risk of flooding. Duke Energy crews are working to clear drains and remove debris from waterways to minimize the impact.

Duke Energy's Preparations

Duke Energy is taking several steps to prepare for the storm, including:

  • Monitoring the storm's path and intensity
  • Staging crews and equipment in strategic locations
  • Securing power lines and other infrastructure

Duke Energy is encouraging customers to be prepared and have an emergency plan in place. Customers can get updates on the storm and outage information at duke-energy.com.
